George Dixon

Have you ever wondered who the boxer in our logo is? His name was George Dixon and he was Canada’s first professional boxer.

Dixon was born in 1870 in Africville, Nova Scotia. Nicknamed “Little Chocolate” he stood 5 feet 3.5 inches tall and weighed only 87 pounds when he began his professional boxing career.  Dixon was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 1955, the Ring Magazine Hall of Fame in 1956 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame as a first-class inductee in 1990.
